Here's to wishing the man “born the day they shot a hole in the Jesus egg” many, many more enthusiastic, earnest, enigmatic, candid, provocative, proactive, accidental, creative, charming, freakish, inquisitive, humble, optimistic, DIY, ever-evolving, wise, childlike years!

12 Days of Martian Christmases at the Zoo Countdown- Day 4- 2009 Covers Poll

“You know, she’s talking about reaching the borderline and whoever this man is, he’s trying to make her orgasm and gets her right close but then isn’t able to do it… then I realized how ridiculous it is for a 40-year-old man to be singing about orgasms.”

-Wayne Coyne as quoted in Flaming Lips’ Coyne Talks State Song Flap, Singing About Orgasms for Madonna Cover by Kevin O'Donnell, www.rollingstone.com April 27, 2009

Not many bands would go from covering Madonna to covering Dark Side of the Moon. What do you think? Get YOUR vote on and/or comment at http://psychexfutureheart.wordpress.com/2009/12/28/12-days-of-martian-ch....

There's only 4 days left in the 12 Days of Martian Christmases at the Zoo Countdown until the New Year’s Eve Freakout! So far we’ve:
- explored the surface of Christmas on Mars (day 12 http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=A38247DF2BCD8904),

-previewed the release of The Flaming Lips and Stardeath and White Dwarfs With Henry Rollins and Peaches Doing The Dark Side of the Moon (day 11-http://psychexfutureheart.wordpress.com/2009/12/21/12-days-of-martian-christmases-at-the-zoo-coutdown-day-11/),

- discussed Christmas music of the future (maybe), past and present (day 10- http://psychexfutureheart.wordpress.com/2009/12/23/12-days-of-martian-ch..., day 9- http://psychexfutureheart.wordpress.com/2009/12/24/12-days-of-martian-ch..., day 8- http://psychexfutureheart.wordpress.com/2009/12/24/12-days-of-martian-ch...),

-listened to coolest yule (day 7- http://psychexfutureheart.wordpress.com/2009/12/25/12-days-of-martian-ch...),

-considered what holiday music The Flaming Lips could perform anew (day 6- http://psychexfutureheart.wordpress.com/2009/12/25/12-days-of-martian-ch...)

-and now we get our unofficial vote on their covers (day 5- http://psychexfutureheart.wordpress.com/2009/12/28/12-days-of-martian-ch..., today- http://psychexfutureheart.wordpress.com/2009/12/28/12-days-of-martian-ch...).

In the next few days we’ll review the year that brought us more reunions, bloggers wetting themselves over the Dirty Projectors, inescapable hits by the Black Eye Peas and Lady Gaga, The Beatles’ remasters, Embryonic, the multiple sides of Karen O., numerous unlikely chart successes (i.e. Sonic Youth’s first album not on a major label since the ‘80s is also their first to go top 20), and a weekend of the least VMA-friendly artists (from Animal Collective to the Super Furry Animals) convening at the second year of ATP NY and climaxing right as Kanye West interrupting Taylor Swift elsewhere in the state got the new boss’s consideration.

Psych Explorations of the Future Heart is an interactive, multi-media publication and discussion about rock n’ roll, pop culture and The Flaming Lips.

12 Days of Martian Christmases at the Zoo Countdown
“It's the type of mood we were hoping to get on The Soft Bulletin: a mood that says, ‘This record is about death and isolation.’”
Wayne Coyne on the influence of Dark Side of the Moon’s “isolation and insanity” in his life and work
Uncut, June 2003, page 48

Psych Explorations of the Future Heart is counting down to New Year's with twelve days of Martian Christmases at the zoo! We began yesterday with a look at Christmas on Mars. Check out some behind the scenes Christmas on Mars footage at http://www.myspace.com/psychexfutureheart and a video playlist (following the film from the original 2003 trailer to the 2008 rock fest screenings and subsequent Q&A dates) at http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=A38247DF2BCD8904.

That was day 12. Today, day 11, we preview The Flaming Lips and Stardeath and White Dwarfs With Henry Rollins and Peaches Doing The Dark Side of the Moon, released exclusively on iTunes tomorrow… and to be performed by The Lips and Stardeath on New Year’s Eve at midnight. Check it out at http://psychexfutureheart.wordpress.com/2009/12/21/12-days-of-martian-ch... (and some other bits at http://www.myspace.com/psychexfutureheart... including a near 10 minute interview with “Tulsa World” in which Wayne mentions their upcoming “world's biggest balloon drop" and more). Then there’s this from NPR- “just as a way to push the conversation onward — I said, ‘Maybe we should just do a cover version of Pink Floyd’s Dark Side Of The Moon,’” Coyne says. “And thinking they would say, ‘Yea, well, maybe not,’ and we would think of something else. But it didn’t.” (audio from NPR: http://www.npr.org/templates/player/mediaPlayer.html?action=1&t=1&islist... )

Check back at http://www.myspace.com/psychexfutureheart tomorrow for day 10!
