You know, to be honest, I was

You know, to be honest, I was surprised they didn't do this at ATP. I mean, they had a couple other bands performing entire albums (some their own, some not), I wondered why The Flaming Lips themselves didn't cover Dark Side or play all of Soft Bulletin or something like that.

Futhermore, I'm really excited to hear this, but The Easy Star All-Stars already nailed this album. I would've preferred to hear them cover something more obscure. I mean, we can all tell the Flaming Lips influences come from some weird places. This could've been an interesting opportunity to play Can or Faust. Although, Warner Brothers might've been at the heart of this...

it would be cool if they did

it would be cool if they did a stage show of dark side with the wizard of oz playing in the background...

I agree, although, a would've perfered an ALL SKA version of "Dark Side..." . That would've been WAY cooler!

Considering how much Wayne

Considering how much Wayne loves "The Wizard Of OZ", I wonder if they might just add actual movie dialogue to THEIR version!

Pink Floyd was doing weird stuff, and doing it years before Can and Faust. Also, when Wayne was asked last night who his top artists to work with would be, dead or alive he picked Miles Davis and Syd Barrett. The Lips have covered Pink Floyd throughout their career.

There's no reason to cover kraut rock when you can cover the band that pioneered psych rock.

Se the first two recorded free form psych jams, "Nick's Boogie" and "Interstellar Overdrive" for reference:

I think that was the point! Cover the Floyd just a little TOO EASY, you know? Now, call me an old fogey, but I'd just assume everyone KNOWS "Dark Side..." and so, maybe introducing 'the kids' to some obscure Can or Faust might've been a little cooler..... but, like I said, I'm old..... maybe introducing a new audience to "Dark Side.." is a good thing.....

dark side is really boring. it puts you to sleep and not in the good way tony conrad or eno would.

Huh? Jugband Blues completely ditches all structure.

Graggor, you seem to be upset about Wayne's comments about who he wants to work with(dead or alive) and what acts are the real influence on Embryonic.

Umm he said who he would want to play with. HE also mentioned radiohead and bowie among others you freak.

halloween on the barbary coast doesnt sound like bowie.
take meta mars doesnt sound like can
the drums on Pilot Can at the Queer of God somehow make the entire song sound like take up my stethescopre and walk.
the bells ringing on zaireeka dont sound earily similar to sing swan song
the gash doesnt sound like queen

I never denied the pink floyd references you freak. they just sound more german. the album feels, sounds and synthesizes a german sound.

I know it is fully immersed in pink floyd. pompeii un guttermarang IS PINK FLOYD OH MY GOD YOU HAVE WON THIS BATTLE!!!! I get it.

Stop worshipping them. they are just ok. dark side IS Boring. listening to it you hear it is boring thats why its popular. any yokel can listen to it and feel smart. thats fine. I like it! But not because it is so brilliant my head explodes. Its kind fo drab.

tony conrad is challenging music. so is roberty wyatt...so listen to rock bottom. easily one of the most important albums ever made.

i would rather listen to kate bush.

mmm bush.

ok, Syd Barrett, yes, but

ok, Syd Barrett, yes, but Dark Side was made a decade after he left the band. '70s Pink Floyd is nothing like '60s Pink Floyd. Syd Barrett did pave the way for Krautrock, but that's not what Dark Side is. Besides, my point was that everyone knows Dark Side and this is an opportunity to expose some of their fans to music they might not know. A cover of Trout Mask Replica or Uncle Meat would be epic and might encourage people to explore the psychedelic rock outside of Pink Floyd (it does exist!).
