the broken double-neck

so, anyone who's seen the Lips live in the past 2 years has probably noticed their red double-neck guitar with the lower neck broken off. I remember sometime last year it had been replaced with a Guitar Hero neck, but that too has disappeared. Well, considering a single-necked double-neck guitar is only using half its potential, I've come up with several suggestions for replacing the neck in no particular order.

1) Flame Thrower; because I'm sure I'm not the only one here who would like to see pyrotechnics return to the Flaming Lips stage show. I mean, Michael's hair is already gone, so it can't burn off again.

2) Midi-controller; I got this idea when I saw the Guitar Hero neck on there and wondered if it was wired to anything. No? Well, it'd be a lot cooler if it did.

3) Roman Candle; along the same lines as number 1, more pyrotechnics!

4) Streamer Tube; Why is Wayne the only one who gets to launch those things at the audience? Steven, get in on that action!

5) Another Guitar; this seems obvious, but it's worth adding to the list.

6) A Theremin; I've actually seen these attached to guitars before. It's weird, it's cool, and those are pretty much all the criteria The Flaming Lips need.

7) A Stomp Pedal; It's a lot more convenient to twiddle those knobs when they right there on the guitar!

8) A Fish; I don't know, I'm making these up on the fly now.

Any other good ideas? Hopefully Kliph reads this and passes it on.

you know, I came across these

you know, I came across these things called Boomwhackers. And they are musical sticks that you can play different notes. The whole thing is very Lips' in my opinion.

Maybe they could mod them and introduce them into the show...

You know, there's a pawn shop

You know, there's a pawn shop just minutes from me that has a heratige cherry Epiphone doubleneck for sale. They want like 600 buck for it, though. I've always wanted one of those, perferably a Gibson, but those are WAY over-priced.

I'll wait a whiule and see if they'll let it go for 400. I seriously doubt anyone will be buying it any time soon.

Broken Double Neck

My guess is that it makes it much easier for Steven to switch between guitar and keys w/o the lower neck there. Does that make sense to anyone?

That makes perfect sense. That's one of the reasons why Geddy Lee from RUSH quit using his doubleneck Rickenbacker 4080 bass for the song Xanadu. It got in his way while switching between the bass and the syntheseizers. So he ditched it after their 1981 Moving Pictures tour. He never played the doubleneck bass live since then.
